CRWV: Can CoreWeave Break Its Post-Earnings Pattern?

Reports Aug 11 after the close. Wall Street wants revenue growth — plus margins, discipline and confident guidance.

$2.53B

Q2 Rev Est.

$99.4B

Q1 Backlog

$31-35B

2026 CapEx

The Setup

Wall Street expects roughly $2.53B in revenue, up ~109% YoY. Company guidance: Q2 rev $2.45-$2.6B, adj operating income $30-$90M, full-year revenue $12-$13B, full-year adj operating income $900M-$1.1B. A strong report needs revenue near/above $2.6B, backlog growth, stable/improving margins, and guidance maintained or raised.

The 4-Quarter Selloff Pattern

CRWV has beaten revenue expectations in each of the last four quarters — and sold off after every one:

Q2 2025: Rev beat ~12%, EPS miss → -20.8%
Q3 2025: Rev beat ~6%, EPS beat → -16.3%
Q4 2025: Rev beat ~3%, EPS miss → -18.5%
Q1 2026: Rev beat ~6%, EPS miss → -11.4%

Average post-earnings decline: ~16.8%. A beat alone won't break it — guidance and margins have to carry the day.

Opportunity vs Risk

Direct exposure to the AI leaders: Microsoft, Meta (up to $21B committed capacity), OpenAI (multi-billion contracts), Anthropic (Claude), Nvidia (supplier + investor). But two customers = ~65% of Q1 revenue and net interest expense was $536M. CoreWeave has to deliver capacity on schedule and convert contracted demand into real operating leverage.

Wall Street: Moderate Buy, average target ~$138.

Maria's Bottom Line — The Trade

Rather than buy shares at $87, I'm considering the following bullish trade:

The Trade

Sell CRWV Sep 4  $72 put  ·  $3.85 limit

Premium

$385

if filled

Breakeven

$68.15

21.7% below $87

Delta

Max Loss

$6,815

if assigned

Stress test: average decline 16.8%; a 20.8% drop puts CRWV near $68.90 — just above breakeven.

Timing: reassess in the final 60–90 minutes Aug. 11 for premium, or wait until after earnings.

Management: close or roll down and out, preferably for a net credit. Rolling does not erase a loss.

Pricing: bid, ask and buying power change. Use a limit order; premium may improve, but is not guaranteed.

Risk: maximum loss $6,815. Margin can rise sharply; be prepared to manage or accept assignment.

Bullish signals

Revenue above $2.6B; backlog growth; stable or improving margins; full-year guidance maintained or raised; capacity projects on schedule.

Warning signs

Revenue below guidance; weaker margins; cautious outlook; rising financing costs; construction, power or GPU-delivery delays.

Nvidia's Next Big Metric: Gigawatts

The AI race is moving beyond chips. Power, land and data-center capacity may now define the size of Nvidia's next opportunity.

The number to watch: one gigawatt of AI infrastructure could represent roughly $50 billion in Nvidia revenue.

B. Riley's chief market strategist Art Hogan offered a useful way to rethink Nvidia's opportunity. Investors have spent years counting GPUs, quarterly revenue and earnings growth. The larger question now may be how many gigawatts of AI infrastructure the world intends to build.

A one-gigawatt AI campus is not simply another server farm. It can require hundreds of thousands of advanced GPUs, high-speed networking, liquid cooling, power distribution and enough electricity to support a small city. Under this framework, a single gigawatt could translate into roughly $50 billion in Nvidia revenue.

That shifts the story from a normal semiconductor cycle to a much larger infrastructure buildout. Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Oracle and governments around the world are competing for land, power and computing capacity.

The Financials Are Hard to Ignore

Approximately 70% revenue growth, 74% gross margin, 63% net margin, and roughly 70% earnings growth. At Nvidia's scale, that combination of speed and profitability is rare.

Its market position is just as striking. Nvidia was estimated to control about 92.4% of sovereign AI large-language-model infrastructure, compared with roughly 4.1% for AMD and less than 2% for the remaining competitors combined.

The Real Bottleneck Isn't Chips. It's Electricity.

AI capacity can only expand as quickly as utilities, substations, cooling systems and data centers can be built. That is why the industry's language is changing from servers and chips to megawatts and gigawatts. Wall Street has spent years counting smartphones, PCs, cloud servers and GPUs. The next number that may matter most for Nvidia is the amount of AI power the world can actually bring online.

Maria's Bottom Line

My mind tells me not to chase Nvidia at any price. Even the strongest companies pull back, and the best trades still require patience, proper sizing and a clear set of rules.

But honestly, that is my brain talking. My heart says I would take Nvidia at almost any price because I believe so strongly in the company and the long-term AI story.

Still, we all know the truth: we do not trade with our hearts. We trade with our minds, our discipline and our rules. So I remain bullish — but I will wait for the right opportunity rather than let emotion make the decision.
